Dietary supplements are not FDA-approved; where a facility is described as FDA-registered, that registration applies to the facility, not to the product.
Who should take extra care
The product label asks pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition to consult a physician before use, and says not to exceed the recommended dose. That applies with particular force if you take medicines associated with diabetes, blood pressure or heart conditions. The formula also contains a liquorice-derived compound, monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, which is another reason to show the full label to your doctor.
SugarReset and your doctor: when to ask before the first dropper
SugarReset is a dietary supplement. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent diabetes or prediabetes, and it is not a substitute for any medicine, meal plan or monitoring your doctor has set. These are the situations where the conversation should come first:
- Glucose-lowering medicine. Insulin, sulfonylureas and several other diabetes drugs can cause hypoglycemia on their own. Chromium, gymnema and Panax ginseng may add to that effect. - A1C and glucose testing. The A1C test averages roughly three months of blood glucose and is how your doctor judges treatment (NIDDK, the A1C test). Keep every scheduled test; no study has looked at SugarReset and A1C.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The label asks pregnant or nursing mothers to consult a physician, and blood sugar in pregnancy is managed closely (MedlinePlus; NIDDK, gestational diabetes).
- Replacing treatment. Supplements should not stand in for proven diabetes care (NCCIH), and the FDA warns about products sold as diabetes treatments (FDA).
If you feel unwell after starting, stop the drops and contact your doctor; for confusion, fainting or a seizure, call 911. Reactions to any supplement can be reported to the FDA through MedWatch.
Taking insulin, metformin or another drug that lowers blood sugar, or expecting a baby? Ask the doctor who looks after that first, and keep every glucose and A1C check on its usual schedule; SugarReset is not part of that plan.
